1) To maintain contact with graduates from the Institute of Gerontology within the University of Malta
2) To disseminate and share information regarding Gerontology and Geriatrics
3) To promote further advancement of research and practice in Geriatrics and Gerontology
4) To help in the improvement of the quality of life of the elderly, both directly and indirectly.
5) To act as the representative forum of the professional interests of Gerontology and Geriatrics.
6) To co-operate with other professionals involved in the promotion of total well being of older persons.
Aims
The main aim of the Association shall be to promote professional and educational advancement of Gerontologists and Geriatricians. The Association places great emphasis on research based mutual education by and of its own Members. It also stresses the importance of considering all the aspects of the elderly person - physical, spiritual, social and psychological. This Association is a forum for considering every aspect of Gerontology and Geriatrics both locally and internationally.
Objectives
The objectives of the Association shall include:
a) To promote Gerontology and Geriatrics;
b) To periodically review, enhance and clarify the role of the Gerontologist and Geriatrician ;
c) To interpret the aims of the diverse educational programmes in the fields of Geriatrics and Gerontology;
d) To reach and unite all those who qualify for membership;
e) To be represented in fora where Gerontologists and Geriatricians can benefit from such representation;
f) To foster the professional education and training of all those who are working in the field of ageing or who intend to work with the elderly.
