The Statute of the MAGG was approved by the General Assembly on the 12th.. of February, 1998.
Languages
The official languages of the Association shall be both Maltese and English.
Membership
There are basically three types of Members:
a) Honorary Members
b) Regular Members
c) Associate Members
Honorary Members
Honorary Members are those persons who in gratitude for the service or work rendered by them for the progress of Gerontology or Geriatrics, will be so called by the General Assembly.
Those who are approved as Honorary Members will not have the right to vote in the General Assembly and they cannot be Members on the Council.
Regular Members
To become a Regular Member one should either be:
a) in possession of a postgraduate diploma/degree in Gerontology or Geriatrics from the Institute of Gerontology or from any other recognised Institution, or,
b) a full or part-time member of the teaching staff of the Institute of Geronotlogy.
Membership will commence on the day that the said Member pays his/her fee.
The Council has the right to refuse membership to any person. The Council has to draft a report at the end of every administrative year to outline the reasons for such refusals. Refusals have to be explained case by case. For a person to be refused membership there must be the approval of at least two thirds of the Council Members.
The fee of Regular Members is L.M. 8.00 or US$ 24 yearly. This can only be changed by approval of a simple majority of the Regular Members present in the General Assembly.
Associate Members
Students who are following a course of studies within the University of Malta, leading to a Diploma/Masters in Gerontology may apply for Associate membership.
The membership fee of Associate Members is L.M. 4.00 yearly. The membership fee may only be changed by the approval of a simple majority of the Members present in the General Assembly.

The General Assembly
This is the highest organ of the Association. It is composed of all the Members of the Association
The general direction and control of the Association shall be in the hands of the General Assembly. Decisions taken by the General Assembly are binding on the Council. The General Assembly has the power to overrule any decision taken by any other organ of the Association.
The Council
The Council is composed of ten (10) Members: These are the:
a) President;
b) Vice President;
c) Secretary;
d) Assistant/International Secretary;
e) Treasurer;
f) Assistant Treasurer;
g) Educational officer;
h) Public Relations Officer;
i) Two representatives of the Associate Members.
The term of Office for all Council Members, except for the representatives of the Associate Members is three (3) calendar years.
